Employers Flee California
Maybe Governors Scott Walker, Mitch Daniels, and John Kasich feel frustration from time to time at the pace of new companies moving into their respective states but that frustration must pale when compared the abject grief Governor Jerry Brown of California must feel when he reads that 254 companies have left his state. In 2011 254 companies moved all or part of their operations out of state. This does not include companies that expanded operations in other states rather than expand in California. In 2010 only 204 companies left the Golden State for greener pastures. Do the math. That's 4.9 businesses leaving every week. The best known of the latest "disinvestment events" was San Jose based Ebay that will be providing 1000 high paying jobs in Austin, Texas. The current unemployment rate for California is 11.2 percent.
