Democrat Proposes a Federal Soda Tax

You gotta love this logic. People who are struggling with their grocery bills choose the least expensive items but I think I know better than they do what they should be eating so let's tax the the cheaper items so they are only malnourished but not drinking sugary soda which might kill them if they don't starve to death first. It's this line of reasoning that make Obamacare so distasteful, so overbearing and ultimately unworkable. People on a budget would choose a health insurance policy they can afford but I think they should buy a policy that covers the things I think they need even though they can't afford it. New Haven heart throb, Rep. Rosa DeLauro speaking at a conference on food stamps suggested a federal tax on on soda beverages.
“But I will tell you that if you’re paying $3.49 for juice and 79 cents for soda, if you are in a low-income family and you have to stretch the dollar, you don’t need a rocket scientist to tell you what you’re going to buy,” DeLauro said. “You’re going to go for the 79 cents.
"And maybe, quite frankly," she said, "one of the things that we ought to look at and one of the things we ought to consider is a soda tax.
People on food stamps don't have to worry about the price of Pepsi as anyone who has been to a grocery store can tell you. Yes, they can only afford so much shrimp and only so many microwaveable dinners that free them from the drudgery of cooking but they get by. Impose the tax and the only people who will be affected will be those who buy groceries with their own money. If DeLauro is concerned about what people eat she should eliminate soda drinks from the food stamp program. Obesity and diabetes are associated with low income groups, the same people DeLauro champions which should tell anyone who can think that governmental concern is bad for his health. I do wish DeLauro would tell us where she shops. I would like to buy some of those $.79 sodas then squander my saving on round steak.

  1. Yeah, just like they want to start taxing every mile you drive with the excuse that they're "losing money" because people are driving more energy efficient vehicles.

The government is a voracious greedy monster that never ever has enough of our lives or money.
