ATF Supervisor Reassigned To Washington

A prime figure in the Gun Runner investigation, William Newell won't be posted to the Mexico City embassy as the ATF had previously announced. Instead Newell will be assigned to a Washington desk. The Mexican government has launched its own investigation into operation Fast and Furious and has asked for transcripts of Newell’s recent testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The ATF worries Newell might be arrested were he to be sent to Mexico. Evaluations of Newell's testimony before Congress range from evasive to perjurious.
