Trainwreck! Healthcare.gov gets 51,000 applications in first week.

You didn't believe Kate Sebilius when she told Jon Stewart that she didn't know how many had signed up for Obamacare. Let me be charitable and assume that she and Chuck Hagel were off doing something when the numbers came in and it was found that the DOD wasn't paying death gratuities to the families of the military killed in action. Well just because Aunt Kate doesn't know doesn't mean everyone is that poorly informed. The UK Daily Mail knows and the numbers and they are horrific. At the end of the first week just 51,000 had completed applications and only 6,200 had done so at the end of day one.
To make the damn thing work the administration must enroll 7 million mostly healthy young people by the end of the enrollment period, March 1, 2014. At the present rate it will enroll just 1.32 million plus whatever the state exchanges contribute. Note bene! These numbers are for completed applications not purchases of healthcare policies. How many of these applicants will just be added to the expanded Medicaid rolls is not known. What should be known is this is a colossal train wreck. Do the math. Divide 7 million by 180 to computer the daily average enrollment healthcare.gov and the state exchanges must do in the next 6 months to make the program viable. That daily average is 38,888 policies written-not applications completed.
The healthcare exchanges work for two groups; the poor, who will get Medicaid, and those with pre existing conditions. Almost all others lose. The subsidies will not offset the increased cost for most other groups. Sadly, some may not have the money to make the monthly outlays and will have to go uninsured and pay the fine. Consider the person who was bumped off his employer's healthcare plan who must now go uninsured and be rewarded with a fine for his constrained budget. He is sure to vote Democratic next election? Small wonder Kate doesn't want to talk about these numbers.
