Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!
Said Sir Walter Scott. I had mistakenly attributed that quote to the head of the Justice Department's criminal division, Lanny A. Breuer, who seems tangled in his several versions of what the hell happened in operation Fast and Furious. The redoubtable Cheryl Atkinson of CBS News reports that newly released document show Breuer knew about "gun walking" in April of 2010. Falling on his sword, Breuer issued a statement saying he "regrets" that he didn't alert others in Justice Department leadership, apparently including his boss Attorney General Eric Holder.
