Douglas Brinkley is an historian originally from Perrysburg, Ohio. Ordinarily he is a fascinating speaker, full of warm and personal stories about historical figures, battles and events but this little incident at a congressional hearing and filmed by c-Span cameras looks a little, well,
He's moderately left wing, as that goes, and appears to run in left wing circles.
To be honest, in this encounter with the congressman, neither man looks like Captain America.
You want to cheer when you see Brinkley snap back at the congressman, who is arrogant, condescending and mean, but Brinkley, frankly, looks like he's been out all night drinking and takes great umbrage at having his name jumbled with Rice University.
It's almost a duel between two "Don't you know who I am?" self important dudes who can't drop it.
Brinkley can't drop it; he looks childish and petulant, won't stop talking and repeats his self righteous grievance.
It's hard NOT to be sympathetic with Brinkley because the congressman is such an a$$, and Brinkley is right...he DOES pay the congressman's salary but, hey, Brinkley looks like he's partying down on Bourbon Street the night before.
