The question Cain supporters are going to have to ask themselves is "Will we be happy to vote for another Bill Clinton"? The issues become muddled when Politico and Gloria Allred are added into the mix. Perusing the blogosphere this evening one finds opinions on the legal culpability of Cain, Allred's motivation, and why Sharon Bialek was fired. It's not about Sharon Bialek it's about Herman Cain. The Washington Examiner is reporting a fifth indiscretion on Cain's part and I really don't want to wait for numbers 6, 7, and 8. In this instance a paid staffer for the United States Agency for International Development, Donna Donella recalls Cain asking her to arrange a dinner date with a young lady at a seminar at which Cain spoke. Donella became suspicious of Cain's motives and declined to set up the date. Undeterred Cain asked Donella out for dinner but two other females intervened and the four of them went out for dinner. Am I the only one who sees a pattern here? There are two sexual harassment settlements made by Cain's former employer, the National Restaurant Association, there is an unnamed women who spoke through the Associated Press, there is Sharon Bialek and now this from Ms Donella who has spoken because she thought it was the right thing to do. The fact that she was an Obama voter doesn't bear much weight unless we are prepared to distrust all Obama voters.
Bialek is the most damaging witness against Cain and she has already been subjected to much vetting at this early date. It is known that she filed for bankruptcy, that she was fired by the National Restaurant Association and that she had a lawyer name David Axelrod but not the David Axelrod most of us know. She has probably had a troubled life but will we treat her as badly as Paula Jones was treated? Is her story any less credible than Paula Jones'? The Cain camp has delivered a different message everyday for the last two weeks. We have not been told the whole truth. This is not a high tech lynching but rather a Chinese water torture with the drip, drip, drip of half factual information. Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann look awfully good to me.
