U.S. Sends Special Forces to Libya

The London Times reports that the United States, France and Algeria have  dispatched special force to Libya’s south to target terrorist networks. Their reported target is al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. The White House and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) both deny the report. It is also reported that some 180 U.S. marines are on standby to provide extra security for the American embassy in Tripoli. They were sent to Sigonella in Sicily but have yet to receive orders to fly to Tripoli.
The past two administrations have greatly expanded the US military presence on the Dark Continent to the extent it would surprise most Americans.
