In Thursday's debate when Joe Biden declared " But we weren't’t told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security there.” He, in effect, gave Hillary Clinton credit for the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and the three other Americans. Jay Carney explained that Biden meant that he and Obama didn't personally know of the requests for more security but the Obama administration was indeed aware of the requests. That's a cute if they can pull it off. Everyone else is to blame except for the two guys at the top. Never mind that the National Security Council, located in the White House, exists to keep the president updated on security threats. Presumably the voters are to give Obama and Biden a pass since they skip the national security briefings.
Hillary Clinton and her loyal husband can see where this is going. The Chicago gang will sell Hillary down the river if push comes to shove. Hillary has worked hard for four years to set up a run for the presidency in 2016 and taking the blame for a security failure will likely ruin her chances. Ed Klein, author of the best selling book The Amateur claims to have sources in the Clinton camp. Writing at the Daily Caller, Klein reports that Bill Clinton has put together a group of lawyers to advise Hillary should she be called to testify before the House Oversight Committee. Hillary does not have a good choice. She can take the blame for Benghazi, protect Obama, and ruin her chances for 2016 or she can exercise the doomsday scenario and resign. Her resignation would probably assure Obama's loss and she would be blamed for the loss again killing her chances for 2016.
According to Klein Bill Clinton and Obama and their respective allies have a relationship that has become increasingly acrimonious since the convention. When Clinton heard Obama was too cocky to take his debate preparations seriously he had an aide call Obama and offer to give him some tips on how to beat Romney. Clinton waited and waited but his call was not returned. Eventually hurt feelings escalated to outrage. Clinton had given the speech at the convention that gave Obama a substantial bounce, had agreed to make ads for the Obama campaign and now he was ignored by someone too lazy to prepare for a debate.
"Bill thought that he and Obama were on friendly terms after the convention,” one source told me. “He couldn’t believe that the White House didn’t even extend him the courtesy of a return phone call. He concluded that Obama’s arrogance knows no bounds.
For all of the public displays of warmth and friendship the two men have never gotten along. The two couples has never never shared an informal dinner. Possibly after the election they will both have plenty of time to get to know one another better.
