Catholic Bishops Reject Obama "Accommodation"

I thought this would be coming;

"In a nation dedicated to religious liberty as its first and founding principle, we should not be limited to negotiating within these parameters. The only complete solution to this religious liberty problem is for HHS [the Health and Human Services Department] to rescind the mandate of these objectionable services."

With that statement the American Conference of Catholic Bishops rejected Obama's "accommodation" to the Catholic Church in the contraceptive mandate. Most of us could see that the so called "accommodation" was little more than an accounting gimmick. The church institutions would not pay for the mandated coverage directly but rather indirectly when their insurance provider increased its premiums to offset the costs of the "free coverage". Omitted from any opinion in the mainstream media is the fact that many religious institutions self insure. Related to the bishops' complaint is the complaint from small business owners who now find that they too are going to be paying for contraceptives and abortifacients which Obama and HHS deem to preventive health care.

The bishops have promised a court fight and two Catholic colleges — Belmont Abbey in North Carolina and Colorado Christian University — have already sued the government, arguing it violates their First Amendment and their religious freedom. A number of state attorney generals are weighing the decision to file on behalf of their respective voters. Should these cases get to the Supreme Court two facts are germane. One month ago the Court in a 9-0 decision slapped down the Obama EEOC and affirmed religious freedom. Second there a 6 Catholic Justices on the Court, the last one appointed was by Obama himself, Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
