Boehner Is Holding Aces

Speaker John Boehner;
"This attack by the federal government on religious freedom ... cannot stand and will not stand."

As a Catholic I'm sure Speaker John Boehner is sincere in his belief that the Obamacare contraceptive mandate steps over the line but to have such a political windfall drop right into his lap must make him almost giddy. Now the Speaker will introduce legislation to overturn the mandate and every congressman will get a chance to show the folks back home where he stands. If the Obamacare vote was hard for pro choice Democrats from districts with large Catholic population this vote will make them apoplectic. There are some who think this issue will fade by November or at least hope it will. It's doubtful the Catholics bishops are going to lose interest in the issue as the election approaches. Now even if HHS backs down the Speaker will insist the issue too important not to be written into law. Political fortunes rise and fall quickly but presently Boehner has Obama, Reid and Pelosi by the short hair.
