Lugar Trounces Mourdock in Latest Poll

Regular readers of this blog may have noticed it hasn't paid much attention to the Indiana Republican senatorial primary. The reason? A plague on both their houses. Dick Lugar is, well Dick Lugar, and anyone who has paid attention to his Senate voting record in recent years has to conclude he really needs to be retired. Dick Mourdock is the Tea Party candidate when it suits his needs. I don't give a damn what Jennifer Rubin and Erik Erikson think of Mourdock nor do I care what my friends here in Indiana think I am not voting for a Tea Party candidate with a tax problem. Mourdock has offered an explanation which I reject noting that the supposed misunderstanding concerning the exemption he improperly took on his property tax continued for three years and wasn't corrected until it became public.

In any event, there is a new poll out showing Lugar leading Mourdock 49 to 28 percent. Mourdock can take consolation in the fact that Lugar did not poll 50 percent but it's a small polling sample with a margin of error of plus or minus 6.2 percent. Mourdock has increased his name recognition to 66 percent but not many people like him once they get to know him. He has a 17 percent favorably rating as compared to Lugar's 59 percent. Bear in mind that this poll was conducted among likely Republican primary voters and Mourdock is only viewed as favorable by only 17 percent! The primary is still six month off but it's beginning to look as if most Hoosier Republicans will swallow hard and vote for Lugar.

  2. I believe that is only Indianapolis voters....Lugar was mayor there for many years and still has a lot of support. I wouldn't write Mourdock off just yet....Lugar is not nearly as well liked Statewide......
