About that wedding

Many of us aren't big fans of the really big shoooww or lovey dovey smooching for the crowd ("I just want to see them KISSSSS!") or the pomp and circumstance and importance of "royalty." (Perhaps that is because some people in this country insist on calling those boobalicious dunces in Hollywood "American royalty," which kind of ruins the whole concept.)
I have to say, though, that Friday's wedding was impressive for a number of reasons. Inadvertently catching it instead of the regular news cast, I probably saw about 80 or 90 minutes of it live, but they were the important parts.
The contrast of colors, the ornate uniforms, the magnificent Westminster Abbey from numerous angles including the top of the steeple, and, most of all, the music. The long carriage ride framed by bright green trees and red coats. Wow.
  Here's Red State's take:
But whatever one thinks of the Monarchy, in an increasingly pathetic MTV world - the ceremony today was extraordinary, and a good thing for the world to see. It was nothing short of impressive - timely, carried out with precision, dripping with military, christian and royal traditions. The music was magnificent - there were actual hymns rather than gaudy “praise music” rock bands, a church that looks like a church, and the participants and guests were dressed not just appropriately, but perfectly… The procession was extraordinary, with hand-sewn uniforms and white and black horses leading the carriages - the Union Jack lining the streets.
The so-called ladies of The View found all this fodder for buffoonery, Sherri Shepherd incensed that there were no dark skinned peoples in the wedding troupe. How can white people have no close dark skinned friends to stand in their wedding? (Presumably Sherri Shepherd has lots of close light skinned friends? After all, we pick our friends by skin color, right?)
Shepherd's slur in itself is close to causing an international incident.
The always odious Joy Behar took particular delight in ridiculing the Queen, who was dressed in yellow, which Behar, wearing s--t brown, jeered, yellow being a problem for her. From The Telegraph:
Behar’s hugely offensive comments, which inexplicably prompted roars of laughter from the audience, were in extremely poor taste, and cruel and mocking in nature towards a public figure who is greatly revered by the British people, and widely admired by most Americans. They represent another low for US network TV, and ABC, owned by The Walt Disney Company, should issue an immediate apology to the Royal family as well as its own viewers for this crass display of monumental bad taste. This was nasty, gutter-level mocking of the Monarch of America’s closest friend and ally, and a bridge too far for a broadcaster that is supposedly dedicated to quality programming.
It is inconceivable that the boobs who sit on that couch feel so free on television to make such absolutely inane and harsh remarks about an ally's leaders. Having taken lessons from Kathy Giffords, this is what television is now, broadcast round the world, picked up by YouTube. Ridicule and insults, with open mouthed laughter belching out of their idiot mouths.
Would Beehar have been outraged if British View boobs sat on a couch and laughed and ridiculed Michelle Obama's pee colored ensemble with matching gloves and shoes Inauguration Day?
Apparently decorum has no place in front of a camera anymore.
The music at the wedding was a delight; the sermon a reminder of times past.
  Meh.
The change we're getting isn't an improvement.
