Obama to Eliminate ATF?

Katie Pavlich at Townhall. Com writes that several source from within the ATF, the DOJ, and Congressional offices say there is a "white paper" circulating that outlines the essential elimination of the ATF. Under the proposed elimination some 450 ATF agent would be fired rather than reassigned to other government agencies. The control of firearms and the agency's other duties would be shifted to the FBI or DEA. As I have stated on this blog many times the mainstream media is loath to cover the scandal resulting from operation Fast and Furious. The exceptions are CBS News which broke the story, FoxNews, and the LA Times. With the lack of media interest I presumed that DOJ and Eric Holder thought they had the damage under control. Evidently that is not the case. One would assume the DOJ would try to sell this idea as a drastic reform to clean up a corrupt agency.

The corruption may have soiled a few agents but the source of that corruption is a politicized DOJ, an either corrupt or abysmally incompetent Attorney General, and at least three people in the White House. The former Acting Director Kenneth Melson, supervisor William Newell and supervisor David Voth who have been linked to the scandal have been transferred out of the ATF and would not be affected. Whistle blower such as John Dodson, who apparently took his case to Senator Patrick Leahy only to be blown off before taking to CBS News, and agent Vince Cefalu and other "honest cops" would be fired to protect the guilty. The fact that the administration is willing to eliminate an entire agency screams panic and desperation.

  1. Well, the other thing I read about this scandal today was that this is all really a guise to thwart a special prosecutor and claim that they are saving 1.2 billion dollars a year.

I wonder about several things: the aide named Riley who was very much a part of the conspiracy who was transferred mysteriously to Iraq where he can't be questioned.

I also wonder, since one of the gunwalker centers was Tucson, where Loughner got his gun.

    Just wondering.

  2. Kevin O'Rielly, my guess is in Iraq for just as you suggest to avoid questioning. The Friday night document dump which was incomplete by the White Houses admission did show that Newell and O'Rielly were quite the pen pals not as Newell suggested in his testimony someone he wrote about F&F once. Issa will get a special prosecutor when he calls for one. At least that is my guess.

  3. I meant to add that there was panic in the ATF after the shooting in Phoenix but Loughner had that gun for sometime. Damn the bad luck!
