Obama jokes, hope dims

This administration does not support the dollar in world markets, according to reports of Geithner's statement. In fact, this administration is open to a global currency, as suggested by the Chinese, run by the International Monetary Fund. UK Telegraph:
The dollar plunged instantly against the euro, yen, and sterling as the comments flashed across trading screens. David Bloom, currency chief at HSBC, said the apparent policy shift amounts to an earthquake in geo-finance.
"The mere fact that the US Treasury Secretary is even entertaining thoughts that the dollar may cease being the anchor of the global monetary system has caused consternation," he said.
It appears that this administration has cast another no confidence vote in the idea of American exceptionalism.
Krauthammer at NRO discusses the administration's lack of action on the astounding debt this country is racking up. Obama has refused to deal with Social Security, saying that it isn't a problem, even though, for the first time, Social Security is now operating in the red:
The relative ease of the fix is what makes the Obama administration’s Social Security strategy so shocking. The new line from the White House is: no need to fix it because there is no problem. As Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director Jack Lew wrote in USA Today just a few weeks ago, the trust fund is solvent until 2037. Therefore, Social Security is now off the table in debt-reduction talks.
This claim is a breathtaking fraud.
Then we have the lie about the drilling for oil and attempting to make this country more secure through independence. Dana Perino, the usually mild tempered former Bush press secretary, was blunt about assessing Obama's words and their veracity:

To quote Mr. Obama, one would think that the oil wells are booming and business in the oil industry is great:
So any notion that my administration has shut down oil production might make for a good political sound bite, but it doesn’t match up with reality. We are encouraging offshore exploration and production.
The states are facing turmoil, budget shortages and conflict.
The country of Japan is facing an apocalypse unlike anything in modern history. One can barely watch the news without feeling angst and pity for the individuals who are not homeless, tired, sick and hungry.
And our president and his wife? How do they respond to these momentous and anxious times?
The First Lady, whose husband has spoken frequently of sacrifice, shows again her tremendously sensitive and insightful nature by sporting a $1000 tote bag as she shlumps about the city. Not an unusual occurrence for her, to be sure, as she's never that concerned about money, having several times taken off off a vacations that have cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars and worn items of clothing that cost an enormous of money while she dishes out the slop at a soup kitchen.
Our President yuks it up, there being no more appropriate time to joke than now, with the in crowd of elite journalists at the Gridiron.
Our President runs a session for school children on the hazards of bullying (defined as "teasing"), even while citizens all around the country are being bullied by members of his party.
Our President addresses the nation concerning equity in pay for women.
And, of course, our President goes golfing.
And he complains it would be easier to be president of China. One might suggest the way we're going now, he already is.   Yet some of us don't care how much other people's clothes cost.
Some of us don't care how often the President golfs, as long as he does his job well.
The problem is that these incidents are not in balance with the governing that is taking place. Never having been a fan of class warfare, we don't intend to start now, even if it's the president and his wife showing insensitivity.
But it certainly seems that there's a gap between respect for this country's people and what this man and his associates actually believe.
What, Mr. President, do you actually believe?
It's becoming more obvious every day, unfortunately.
Our only hope seems to be that 2012 will bring about a change.
