A monkey here, a racist there

Quote Larry O'Donnell: "Long ago cartoonists stopped giving human beings animalistic characteristics."
  Really, Larry?
  REALLY?
Like maybe, long ago means, since the last president was in office?
So today's outrage is O'Donnell waxing melodramatically about a so-called "racist" cartoon by a right winger cartoonist. He really gets off on this, intoning excoriations dramatically into the camera."Stop doing this!" he pleads. "Grow up as an artist!"
The family needs to do an intervention, O'Donnell opines. Please, he pleads.
O'Donnell encourages people to harass the artists, any time they are seen in public. (Sound familiar?) Turning moist eyes insipidly to YOU, the viewer, O'Donnell is hurt, hurt that Michelle Obama would be accused of overeating hamburgers.
Never mind the wide rear end pictures.
Never mind the confiscation of cameras when she's eating out so people can't post on Facebook Michelle O scarfing a messy cheeseburger.
It's raaaacist to imply she's a big bossy eater who likes bacon.
Here's the video of outraged Larry, H/T Right Scoop:

Remember the rules. You can say anything you want about conservatives, no matter what skin color, gender or sexual proclivity, but you can't say anything about liberal candidates because you're 1) raaaacist  2) homophobe   3) sexist  4) fill in the slur.
Here's interesting commentary back from 2008 at The Will To Exist blog:
Why is it OK for one man to be shown as a monkey but not the other? Why is it racist to portray Barack Obama as a monkey but a matter of free speech when you do the same thing to George W. Bush? I Googled and could find only one incident of protests related to images of George W. Bush portrayed as a monkey. The protests, not surprisingly, were in favor of the artist who depicted the President in an image made entirely of smaller images of monkeys.
Here's the offending cartoon from Big Journalism:

Let's throw another monkey wrench problem into the mix. How about what some liberal racist thinks of Black entrepreneur Herman Cain, Republican candidate for President? From Big Journalism:

Progressive website Alternet yesterday published a piece which called presidential contender Herman Cain a “black garbage pail kid,” “monkey,” and other slurs:
As you know, I find black garbage pail kids black conservatives fascinating not because of what they believe, but rather because of how they entertain and perform for their White Conservative masters.
[...]We always need a monkey in the window, for he/she reminds us of our humanity while simultaneously reinforcing a sense of our own superiority. Sadly, there are always folks who are willing to play that role because it pays so well.
[...]Herman Cain–an ironic name if ever, and one more suited to a tragic figure in a Harlem Renaissance era novella–is not “blackening twice” as some race minstrels chose to do.
[...]Herman Cain’s shtick is a version of race minstrelsy where he performs “authentic negritude” as wish fulfillment for White Conservative fantasies.
So Herman Cain is a monkey, a minstrel a black garbage pail kid.
  Ugh. Shower time again.
To cleanse, here's a little Allen West, BLACK CONSERVATIVE, to watch:
"We will lay down our lives for this constitutional republic."
