New EPA regs to slam Ohio

As if we don't have enough to worry about, new EPA regulations will drastically affect the state of Ohio with regard to the coal industry and heating homes in Ohio. Read Ken Blackwell over at Daily Caller:
Even with 14 million Americans out of work and an economy still searching for light at the end of the tunnel, the EPA is poised to enact a series of back-door mandates that will stifle economic growth. And with the speed that this runaway train is traveling, people in states like Ohio should be scared of the “train wreck” headed towards a town near you

  1. I disagree with the conventional wisdom that Obama re-election is a slam dunk due to a lack luster Republican primary field. Should the EPA regulations be as onerous as the DC article suggests they may they may trigger more than an electoral revolt. I have long thought that the Lisa Jackson-Van Jones wing of the Democratic could happily tolerate a little civil unrest, seeing themselves on the ramparts of the war to save the planet. They, as does Obama, harbor contempt for middle America especially middle Americans who do anything practical such as make steel, mine coal, drill for oil or build power plants. Of course any regulation of such great impact would be fought in court before the shooting started and that fight will be protracted well beyond the next election which brings us to Mr. Obama's slam dunk win.

Firstly, Senators Casey, Brown (Sherrod), Manchin and wannabe Senator Kaine know they cannot win elections in the dark. As time for the implementation for the new regulations nears it seems clear that they must either break sharply with their President and their party or take early retirement.

Secondly, the damage done to the economy by shutting down power plants would be horrendous. The costs of new regulation will be spelled out in the financial press and by election day everyone will be aware of what the unemployment rate will be and who will be unemployed if the regulations proceed.

Thirdly, the damage already done to the economy by engaging in prolonged hostile action with an oil producing country, the drilling suspension in the Gulf of Mexico and the inflation resulting from QE2 makes Obama's re-election anything but a slam dunk.

  2. I was in Florida 6 months after The One was elected; we met a coal guy and a union guy from Detroit at the pool every day.

I could feel the undercurrent of conflict between the two as they talked. Indeed, the coal guy at the time said exactly what you've said. Obama's expected coal policies will indeed decimate the coal industry, not to mention removing a source of energy.

You've hit the nail on the head (CLICHE) repeatedly here.

I dunno. This dude is trying to pass all kinds of policies without going through any kind of vetting process...the executive order. I don't get how it's legal.

OTOH, when we talk about damage to the economy, the obliviousness displayed by this administration is quite remarkable. ALL of them appear to be absolutely CLUELESS when it comes to fixing anything or caring enough to fix anything.

Really, I don't know how this economy has withstood the attack on it already, through various attacks by liberals who pride themselves on never actually producing anything but instead nurturing Keynesian philosphies such as QE2.

Geez. I'm still creeped out by Atlas Shrugged. It's not that it's such a great movie. It's just so prescient. And accurate.
