Artur Davis May Switch Parties

This is one of those man bites dog stories and the ramifications should give the Democratic Party such concern that it feels stomach pains. A major, black, Democratic politician is considering defecting to the Republican Party. Former Democratic congressman Artur Davis, is openly considering running as an independent or even a Republican!

“I’ve heard some people at the national level encouraging me to run as an independent for my old office,” Davis said, referring to the congressional seat he left to run for governor. But he said his home state makes it more difficult than almost any other state to run as an independent. “Alabama is not friendly to independent candidacies.”

Davis says that Democrats that switch to the Republican party aren't accepted in Alabama. Come on Tea Party! This is your chance to shine. Loss of the automatic black vote would doom the Democrats into a permanent minority status. To have such a photogenic and charismatic star openly opposing Democratic party orthodoxy is almost tantamount to the Martin Luther's break with the Vatican. In the video below Davis broke with the Democrats on the issue of voter fraud and the implementation of voter ID laws.

  1. It's inexcusable that Republicans wouldn't be accepting of someone who wanted to be part of their organization. That just reinforces the Tea Party concern that the two parties are really cliques, run by the old guard.
