“I would predict that will we get closer to 250 votes,” Meadows said at a Conversations with Conservatives (CWC) press event that the Heritage Foundation’s Rob Bluey moderated on Thursday. “If you look at the Democrats, 25 of the most competitive Democratic races are outlined. Twenty-one of those people voted with us to delay the individual mandate. Now if that says that they aren’t paying attention to what the people say back home I don’t know what is. They’re having to vote so that they justify that.If the Congressman's prediction is accurate this would change conventional thinking. Establishment Republicans say that the favor getting rid of Obamacare but the defunding strategy is doomed to failure. If 20 to 25 Democrats defect then suddenly the contention that only a small group of radical congressmen are dumb enough to defy Obama will collapse. The patronizing narrative from the left leaning media, that Obama is the only adult in the debate will look as ridiculous as the predictions that Obama would easily win congressional approval to strike Syria.
Without research, but strictly off the top of my head, I can state that Delta Airlines, Duke Power, UPS, Sears, Darden Restaurants, IBM, Trader Joe's, Home Depot, and Walgreens have dropped or modified their health insurance plans for their employees, retirees, or employee spouses. The construction unions that depend on a multi-employer contributions are livid that their plans will make union labor non competitive. The electorate's self interest will trump party loyalty and ideology. Obamacare will have a worse impact on the economy than any government shutdown!
With a little bit of luck and standing firm we can win this fight.
