Horrifying video of SWAT raid on homeowners

In a appalling raid on homeowners, Missouri SWAT team members, in search of a "small amount of marijuana," invade a home without knocking, throw the homeowner on the floor without immediate explanation, shoot and kill one dog, shoot and wound another, and frighten the bejeesus out of the man, his wife and her 7 year old son, who the parents tried to protect from witnessing the bleeding and dying dogs on the floor of their home where moments earlier they were resting.
Particularly poignant is the homeowner's sobbed explanation that the dog was just trying to play with the SWAT team members when they arrived unannounced.
A federal judge dismissed all charges against the SWAT members; the judge also determined that the thousands of dollars the homeowners paid in home repair and vet bills should be borne by the homeowners.
  From Captain's Journal:
So the salient question is this: why would anyone voluntarily choose to implement such tactics when there is another choice?
They could have chosen to wait until everyone left the home, bring along animal control to safely handle the dogs, and searched the home in assured peace and safety.  If anything was found that warranted further legal action, then wait until the individual comes home and arrest him in the driveway.
But they chose to endanger themselves, the targeted individual, his wife, his child, and his two dogs.

Why?  What good reason could there possibly be for making this choice?  Do SWAT teams want to play soldier so badly that they are willing to endanger the public, and are judges concerned enough about a “small amount of marijuana” that they are willing to see military tactics used against U.S. citizens?
To be clear: there is a move on in this country to legalize marijuana. This is not something this blogger supports.
But the behavior of these law enforcement officers is reprehensible, frightening and out of balance with the Constitution of the United States. This is exactly the kind of behavior the Founders of this country were trying to prevent.
And for "a small amount of marijuana"?
Considering what else is happening in this country, there might be other things we should be worrying about.
Watch the video but put your coffee down first. The wounded cries of the dogs and then the final shots as one dies are extremely disturbing.
Now go and hug your dog.

  1. The cure is worse than the ailment. What we need are laws that curb judicial immunity. It didn't exist in the beginning of the of the republic but it didn't take judges long to carve out that protection but if a judge was held responsible for the conduct the officers on a no knock raid you can bet there would fewer of these senseless home invasions.

  2. Every time I read the Declaration of INDEPENDENCE, I hear echos of exactly this behavior. It's sickening.
