Yes, I would vote for Carly Fiorina but I doubt if I'll ever have the chance. Fiorina, like Ben Carson and Donald Trump has never held elective office and the country has not elected a non politician since Dwight David Eisenhower. Kudos to Fiorina. She goes for Hillary's jugular in this ad while her male competition for the nomination often seem flummoxed as to how to make that attack.

House Appropriation Committee votes to cut State Department's budget
I wrote two days ago the House Appropriation Committee was prepared to cut the State Department budget if it did not comply with subpoenas issued by Trey Gowdy's Select Committee on Benghazi. Today, by a voice vote, it did just that and to make sure the point was well taken included language the forbids State from spending any money for an embassy in Havana. The bill
also states that the Palestinian Authority will not receive economic aid if it continues to pursue unilateral efforts at the United Nations and other international organization outside of a negotiated peace agreement with Israel. Overall State is looking at a 15% cut in its operating budget.
The principle of "power of the purse" has gained considerable currency on the campaign trail but up until now has been mysteriously absent in legislation. He corrected me, saying he did not know where the question came from. I apologized immediately,” Rehm said. “I want to apologize as well to all our listeners for having made an erroneous statement. I am sorry for the mistake. However, I am glad to play a role in putting this rumor to rest.”
She trolls comments on Facebook to research her interviews? As I said Schieffer understated the problem.
“We now don’t know where people get their news, but what we do know is they’re bombarded with information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most of the information is wrong and some of it is wrong on purpose,” Schieffer said. “It is our job, I think, in mainstream journalism to try to cut through this mall of information and tell people what we think is relevant in what they need to know. That is the job of the journalist and I have to say it’s harder and harder.”One might opine that Schieffer understates the problem. I'm glad that for decades he cut through the mall of information to tell us what he thinks we need to know but there seems to be an easier way. Look it up on Facebook. We have gradually come to expect very little from the Obama Administration and we are seldom disappointed. This is a wacked up regime where the Secret Service gets drunk and drives through barricades, where DEA agents carouse with prostitutes paid for by the drug cartels and TSA agents fail airport security 96% of the time. This story breaking out of Houston is not likely to bolster public confidence in government.

To update my previous post, Congressman Trey Gowdy announced that his Select Committee on Benghazi has teamed up with the House Appropriations Committee to cut the State Department's budget if it does not comply with his committee's subpoenas. Trey Gowdy will have a difficult and dirty job
Most, if not all, us believe Congressman Trey Gowdy is the very best us. He is bright, stupendously articulate, gentlemanly, and above all principled. He may soon have a chance to prove that he is the man we think he is. Those of us who followed the Benghazi attack and subsequent investigations have intuitively sensed there was more to the story than the powers in Washington wanted us to know. There is bipartisan culpability, not in the bogus talking points, or unsubstantiated stories of generals ordered to stand down but rather the purpose of the CIA Annex and the role of the CIA in Libya.

Lake noted that the creation of the Select Committee was opposed by the three committee chairman who had previously investigated Benghazi; Reps. Darrell Issa, Buck McKeon, and Mike Rogers.

Perhaps most intriguing in the recent email batch is a one-line note to Mrs. Clinton from a top advisor, Deputy Chief of Staff Jake Sullivan. The subject of the September 10, 2011 email is simply “Rogers.” The note in its entirety reads: “Apparently wants to see you to talk Libya/weapons.”So Rogers was in it up to his ears? It could be he was interested in drumming up business for a private security firm run by his wife, Aegis Defense Services. Throw in Sidney Blumenthal and you have the makings of a real scandal. Evidently Blumenthal's emails passed through Hillary to Sullivan. In any event it is up to Congressman Gowdy to sort it out. To do this he will probably have to call Rogers to testify thereby creating a Republican civil war while the Democrats on the committee circle the wagons around Hillary. This could get messy but if Trey Gowdy is the man I think he is it will get done.

Showdown: Judge gives the IRS until Friday to provide missing email status.
Judge Emmet Sullivan of the U.S. District Court of Columbia, who we have written kindly about on this blog, has ordered the IRS to provide answers by the close of business Friday on the status of missing emails from Lois Lerner. The IRS recovered some 32,000 missing email from 744 backup tapes now in the possession of the Treasury Inspector General but at issue now are an additional 424 back up tapes. Judicial Watch wants to know where those tapes are and if they contain emails that should be released as part of its FOIA suit and so does Judge Sullivan.

Who should fear Marco Rubio the most?
Lately we have learned from the New York Times two facts that seemingly disqualify Marco Rubio from the presidency. One, He is at best an average driver and two, he may not be rich enough to be president. First, the Times jabbed with Rubios on the Road Have Drawn Unwanted Attention which revealed the sad and sickening fact that the junior senator had accumulated 4, yes 4 speeding tickets over the course of 18 years. Then came the right cross with Struggles With Finances Track Marco Rubio’s Career, a startling tell all, wherein the public learned the man who would be president had struggled to pay off his student debt.
In a USA Today post Glenn Reynolds noted that the research into the Rubio's nefarious driving record was done by the left leaning PAC, American Bridge. The Times denied that AB was the source and it may be telling the truth if not the whole truth.
The Times was not the first publication to delve into Rubio's finances. It started before Rubio got to the senate. See this post in the Tampa Bay Times and learn that the father of 4 " he had $30,000 in "assorted credit and retail debt" (as described on his financial disclosure form) and in 2001 listed $165,000 in loans from the University of Florida and University of Miami Law School."
News that Rubio is on the ragged edged of pecuniary decency seems to be a popular theme. Before the Times story Business Insider attempted to breath new life into this dying theme with Marco Rubio has a 'big money' problem which is essentially a rewrite of the Tampa Bay Times story where we learn that Rubio got a haircut on his Republican Party credit card back in 2010. The staid online publication, Mother Jones, an institution so successful that it operates as a 501-C3 got into the act with Marco Rubio has a 'big money' problem noting "Republican Party was never reimbursed for, including $68.33 for "beverages" and a "meal" from a liquor store near his West Miami home, $765 from Apple's online store for "computer supplies," and $1,024 in payments to a Tallahassee property manager for personal business. Since Rubio has not released his credit card records from 2005 to 2007, it's unknown how he used the card during those years".
Oh no! He stiffed the Florida GOP for $68.33 ten years ago. Put in context with Rubio's scandals Hillary looks like a saint.
Like most right leaning bloggers and pundits I credited the Clinton camp for this assault on Rubio until the following tweet caught my eye.

America Rising super PAC co-founder Tim Miller will likely head up communications for Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush, as the former Florida governor ramps up his bid for the nomination in 2016.Is this where the body is buried? Are the attacks on Rubio being orchestrated by the Bush camp? Just asking.
Miller, one of the most prominent gay Republicans in Washington politics, has worked on numerous GOP campaigns, including John Moccasin's in 2008, and Jon Huntsman's campaign in 2012, followed by Mitt Romney's campaign that year. According to Politico, Miller will act as a senior advisor to Bush's Right to Rise PAC, but will likely become Bush's communications director if he does officially launch a campaign.

The finding that only 49 percent of voters say she inspires confidence and that 50 percent say she doesn't; only 42 percent say she is honest and trustworthy, and 57 percent say she isn't must have hit them like a quarter cup of epson salts. Keep in mind that a federal court has ordered the State Department to release batches of Clinton's emails every month through next January. It's early in the game but they have only Bernie Sanders in the bullpen. Maybe they'll go for broke and book Hillary on Dancing with the Stars.

They should make love, not war
“This is the problem of women trying to overcompensate in becoming more aggressive and macho so they are not accused of being soft on the need to kill and war, right?"
I'm glad a Republican didn't say that and while I can't say overcompensation was the cause Obama was sucked into the Libyan war by the female triumvirate of Hillary Clinton, Samantha Power, and Susan Rice for reasons that were never clear.

We have to really go right to the core of what people are standing for, fighting for and fighting against.
I love Ralph Nader's contribution to pop psychology. It's not safe to put a woman in the presidency because she will overcompensate and become aggressive but is the Oval Office the only place this psychosis will manifest itself? Nader has documented several examples in Albright, Slaughter et al. Let's carry his proposition to its logical extreme. Why not play it safe and exclude women from all positions of authority? God, I'm glad he's not a Republican.

You didn't sire that! I would point out that Mr. Carter had two unique experiences that Obama is not apt to match. James Earl Carter is the only American president to report a UFO and also the only sitting president to have been attacked by a giant swamp rabbit but Dan Pfeiffer is not the only person drawing comparisons between Obama and Carter these days.

Maybe the Dems should market Gov. Dannel P. Malloy as the anti-Rick Perry governor. This overreach could be very costly for the Nutmeg State as those GE employees make a lot of money and pay a substantial chunk of state and local taxes. They won't be easy to replace.
Connecticut was once a low tax haven for wealthy New Yorkers and once one of the richest places in America, and now it's losing out to the rest of America in nearly every category — jobs, population and income. A state that ranks in the bottom five in nearly every ranking of economic climate has just labored to make things even worse. As Ronald Reagan used to say, people can vote with their feet.
The chief executive officer of General Electric Co. has told employees the company has begun looking at the possibility of relocating its Fairfield headquarters in response to the Connecticut legislature's adoption of a two-year budget that again raises business taxes.
CEO Jeffrey Immelt said in an email obtained by The Associated Press that he has assembled an "exploratory team" to review the company's options to relocate to another state with a "more pro-business environment."
He cited "significant and retroactive tax increases for businesses" passed Wednesday night despite lobbying by GE.
Immelt says the conglomerate that manufactures appliances, aircraft engines, wind turbines and other large industrial products buys $14 billion in goods and services from Connecticut companies.

The Utica boom continues as Governor Kasich pushes for a higher severance tax
The Ohio Department of Natural Resource has released its production report for the first quarter of 2015 and falling energy prices have slowed down drilling activity some but have not produced the bust that some predicted. This post will address that below but first some very good news from the
U.S. Energy Information Agency. The Utica has surpassed the Woodford Shale in Oklahoma and will soon pass the Fayetteville Shale in Arkansas. Remember this all started just 5 years ago. Notice that the Marcellus Shale is excluded in the below graph. That's because it is in a super class of its own. Marcellus gas production is roughly equal to the production of the next 4 formations combined.

Wow Senator, back when we still had a steel industry that may have been an equitable compromise but that industry imploded 30 years ago. Didn't you get the memo? Ted Cruz did say that he had read the agreement but Senators Rubio and Graham voted for fast track sight unseen. Of all the GOP presidential candidates only Rand Paul voted no on fast track but he seems determined to carve out a foreign policy position to the left of Obama. I can understand betrayal on the part of Susan Collins and Mark Kirk who are too squishy to help themselves but Senator Ron Johnson? Et tu Brute?
It is not that the 1% are getting richer that bothers me rather it's the 99% are getting poorer. So how does Washington seek to reverse that trend? By selling the 99% down the river both through trade that is not free and more H-1B visas. Would someone please explain why "free trade" must be articulated in a document longer than Obamacare, the contents of which will not become known to the American public until four years after it has been ratified? "We have to pass it to see what's in it", eh Speaker Boehner?

EPA shoots down Gasland hoax
Oh how will we explain this to Josh Fox and his Hollywood friends. You will recall that Fox produced the highly fictionalized documentary, GasLand which was nominated for an Oscar. If you had the good fortune to miss this opus
the upshot of Gasland is fracking is contaminating the nation's water supply.
Not so says none other than the EPA.
Other than in a few select areas, the report found fracking's potential impact on drinking water quality is relatively low. Naturally the EPA had to cite potential danger, if not the actual pollution of drinking water, to mollify Fox and friends but the draft of the study which has yet to be made public is a great deal less than a ringing hosanna to the fear fracking frenzy the left has advanced.
"We did not find evidence that these mechanisms [of potentially affecting water] have led to widespread, systemic impacts on drinking water resources in the United States," the report said

I'm coming off an unpaid leave having put my limited talents to other uses so please indulge me in a rant. Is this the country we want to live in? How long would our parent's generation allowed such affronts to their civil liberties before they demanded a score of bureaucratic scalps. Reasonable Americans of all political persuasions are appalled to learn that the FBI has a fleet of surveillance planes replete with high resolution cameras and cell phone identification devices and that that revered institution has been spying on Americans for years. In the past few weeks the Associated Press has tracked planes from the FBI's fleet on more than 100 flights over at least 11 states plus the District of Columbia. For what reason?
The FBI states that this is not a secret program. It's been going on since the 1980's. Nothing to see here. It has registered it's clandestine fleet of spy planes under the names of dummy corporations supposedly for the pilots' protection. Protection from what? From whom? By some accounts it flies 2000 surveillance missions per year not over ISIS territory or the Rio Grand Valley but over American cities. Are we the enemy? It's all on the up and up. The FBI uses all tools and equipment, and conducts all investigations, in accordance with the Attorney General Guidelines they assure us. Oh boy! Would this be the same Attorney General who signed off on the wire tapping of Fox reporter James Rosen and his parent's phones? Would this be the same Attorney General who learned of the ATF's Fast and Furious fiasco in the newspaper and was found in contempt of Congress or did the new AG rewrite the rules?
This is mass surveillance pure and simple. A plane tracking a single person of interest would not fly over the entire city of Los Angles for hours. With Stingray or similar cell phone tracking devices that identify the user whether or not his phone is in use the FBI can identify all cell phone users in a single city and match the numbers to names.
Okay that's fine. Bill O'Reilly never does anything wrong so it fine if the feds have his metadata. Does he ever do anything embarrassing or have medical problems he would just as soon not share with government bureaucrats. His personal secrets are as safe as a tax return or the donor list of not for profit groups that backed Mitt Romney.
If you trust the FBI you have sticks in your head. Yes, as of late they enjoy more respect than the Secret Service or the DEA as they don't get drunk and hang out with hookers as far as the public knows. They are the good guy who investigate excessive force used by local police forces. The fact is they kill with impunity and that is no exaggeration. They have yet yo explain the death of Ibragim Todashev although they closed the case. He was shot 7 times including a shot through the top of the head. He was in the custody of at least four FBI agents and Massachusetts state police and with a body weigh of 154 pound posed a lethal threat.
In the instance of Ruby Ridge Sammy Weaver, age 14, was shot to death. Accounts differ and yes he was armed but there was testimony that the federal agents never identified themselves before they shot him in the back. Vicki Weaver who once worked as a executive secretary for John Deere was sitting in her home holding her infant daughter when agent / sniper Lon Horiuchi shot her through the head. During the stand-off, the government force, which numbered 350 to 400 men, had named their temporary camp "Camp Vicki". The negotiators who later claimed they did not know Vicki was dead would call out in the morning 'Vicki, we have blueberry pancakes.'
Horiuchi was indicted for manslaughter in Idaho but the case was moved to federal court because of the Supremacy Clause where it was dismissed at the request of the US attorney. That is killing with impunity! Why worry when the FBI tracks your cell? Hey, these are single engine Cessna aircraft not black helicopters which means paranoid right got it wrong.
Obviously the FBI didn't just rush out and buy its fleet of spy planes out of petty cash. They had and have congressional enablers. It is certain a limited number of Senate and House members knew of this program. They need to be voted out of office and quick.
Through two world wars Americans felt safe in their homes so why now does the US Army feel the need to terrorize the residents of Flint Michigan?
This probably part of the same training exercise that upset the people in Texas. Yes, the Army is training for urban warfare. Against whom? It did not have the courtesy to warn residents but preferred to surprise them. If the Army wanted to keep the exercise secret setting off explosions is a strange way of keeping it quiet. Again you can bet select Republican members of Congress are privy to this outrage. Damn national defense act like you got some goddam sense. This is how the Beltway treats the population.
Being on the federal payroll means you are special even if you kill 8 people. If you were observed driving twice the speed limit just before an accident that killed 8 and injured over 200 people you would be arrested on the spot and your bail would be half the solar system yet Amtrak engineer (train driver to the media) Brandon Bostian was not questioned about the accident until two days after the accident a per agreement with the railroad union and while he may eventually face charges he has certainly been treated far better than a mere citizen.Call it government assisted obstruction of justice.
The word "administration" as in Obama Administration is a misnomer. It is not the "performance of executive duties or management" as Merriam-Webster defines the word. It is a haphazard concatenation of decisions, some good and most bad, all hampered by colossal incompetence, overweening hubris, prejudice, partisanship and mendacity. It's not policy in the sense there is coherence. There is no method to the madness. The President seemingly wakes up in a new world everyday oblivious to the mess created yesterday. Small wonder people confuse their letter carriers for homeless people or the FBI for domestic spies or the DEA for drug dealers. This is not the country we want to live in.

Small wonder people confuse their letter carriers for homeless people or the FBI for domestic spies or the DEA for drug dealers. This is not the country we want to live in.
