It seems to me that the tea party movement is suffering some birth pangs. Personally, I do not think we need national leaders for this movement, since it isn't organized and we don't want it to be. One of the most exhilarating things about this movement is that it really is spontaneous and grass roots; what could be more invigorating than seeing interested citizens overwhelming local town hall meetings because they care about the future of their country? If you haven't gone to a meeting, you really need to experience it.
Legal Insurrection has an interesting perspective on what it is like to attend a tea party meeting. Go here to read it.
Now Red State is rejecting the birthers and truthers, which is a good thing. Tea partiers need to NOT be fixated on the birth certificate; what can come of the argument?
And truthers are whack jobs who focused on our own government as the originators of the 9/11 attack, regardless of the facts. (Have you ever been around one? Sheesh. It's all they talk about.)
Left wingers simply can't understand the energy and connection tea partiers have. They can't get their minds around the fact that conservative people who would never even argue with a liberal previously would rise up and give speeches and rouse people from their stupor, even in downtown Perrysburg, where it has happened over and over again.
So instead of accepting the fact that we are on the move, their reaction has been to pay people and/or push people to protest and hold signs up for their side at various spots.
They leave when their shift is up.
Here's the thing about the tea partiers. Our shift is never up. Bank on it.
