The truth about spending and the budget

The Connie Mack "penny plan" proposes that the government cut 1% a year on expenditures.
This is quite reasonable, right? Who wouldn't want to pass this plan?
The truth is--and this is something you never hear from liberals and big spenders--that every government program is projected to increase about 7.5% every year.
This is built into the budget and one of the obvious reasons that tea partiers want the feds to get their spending under control. Obviously this is unsustainable; obviously something has to stop.
The "penny plan" would get spending under control, as it would cut 1% a year for 7 years and then limiting the rate of growth to 18% of the GDP:
MACK: That's right.
HANNITY: So we're going to only cut 1 percent next year. We won't increase have the projected 8 percent. We're going to cut 1 percent this year, 1 percent next year, every year 1 percent and then get to a balanced budget in eight years.
One of the problems with lying to people is that your lies catch up with you, just like the lie about taxes being in a social security "lockbox." Ha. What a joke. Recently Al Sharpton had a caller, an Obama supporter, actually challenge him about this money and the fact that social security recipients might not get paid. Radio Equalizer:
VIRGIL IN ATLANTA: That money (social security) comes out of the taxpayer’s money for them to put aside. That money is set aside in a lockbox and for them to have at the time of their retirement and for things of that nature. That has nothing to do with that unless he has (Sharpton interrupts)
