Gun Runner Update

On July 26th, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will convene a hearing as part of the ongoing investigation into the Department of Justice’s Operation Fast and Furious. The focus of this hearing will be the conduct of the failed operation viewed from the Mexican side of the border. Chairman Darrell Issa has stated
“The Acting Director of the ATF has told congressional investigators that the Justice Department is attempting to shift blame in Operation Fast and Furious away from its political appointees”

News of Fast and Furious first made headlines on January 25 of this year, when with much fanfare the BATF announced the arrest of twenty "strawbuyers". These arrests were touted as a major victory in the war against illegal guns and illegal drugs. MSNBC was very excited about Fast and Furious back then as it seemed willing to report everything that made the Obama administration look successful. Here is one report and there is another one here. At this time the White House had decided that the new reporting regulations issued last week were unnecessary. Apparently they became necessary when the Issa report was published to fend off criticism. As for those arrested in that heroic roundup of cartel thugs only one remains in jail. All the rest were let out within 24 hours. William La Jeunesse explains in the video that they weren't such a big catch after all.
