I'll bet no one saw this coming! GM is suspending production of the Chevy Volt. Apparently even its modest terms of success are too much for the Volt. The company had hoped to sell 45,000 this year but so far has only sold 1,626 in the first two months. Hang on folks Obama said he would buy one when he leaves office. Maybe GM should try to get a down payment from him now. What is GM's explanation for the lagging sales of its electric Edsel? It cost too damn much? It does not deliver on its mileage claims? It catches fire? GM blames the media.
"GM blamed the lack of sales in January on “exaggerated” media reports and the federal government's investigation into Volt batteries catching fire, which officially began in November and ended Jan. 21,"
Never mind it was dead in the water before we knew it was too dangerous to drive. Maybe they could have a fire sale.
