South Park takes on the TSA

  So on South Park this week, we learn of a new branch of government: The Toilet Safety Administration (TSA).
 
  The TSA knocks on a citizen's window to ask if he is using a federally mandated toilet safety strap. He tickets the citizen when he is discovered to have broken the rules.

  In a completely related water note, did you know that the ADA is forcing all pools to put in LIFTS, as of this week?
  Pool owners thought they could use portable lifts but recently the Justice Department, which cares about its citizens so much, clarified that the lifts have to be permanent, which puts pool owners in a bind.
  There are problems with the idea of a permanent lift at all public pools. Weekly Standard:

The Examiner speculates that permanent pool elevators might by themselves be a risk. “The permanent lifts will be a magnet for children to play on, and because they are not designed for that, odds are good that some will get hurt. But then again, each injured kid is just another payday for trial attorneys.”

  Other problems that might develop with a new government rule? Hot Air calls it a "gift to the trial lawyers" since people will go around suing any pool that doesn't have a lift installed, like this guy. Or this guy. Or this guy:

There is no way all 300,000 pools can install permanent lifts by Thursday. There simply are not enough lifts in existence or enough people who know how to install them, according to industry spokesmen. Plus, each lift costs between $3,000 and $10,000 and installation can add $5,000 to $10,000 to the total.

  Substantial financial contributors to the Obama campaign are the trial lawyers. Hot Air says that explains what's going on here, and that it might mean you need to find "a private pool" to use this summer rather than your usual haunt:

What will be the outcome from this rule change?  You may need to find a private pool in order to go swimming this summer.  The only protection that many of these pools will have will be to close them down until they can find the money to add expensive permanent lifts, and in spas that may mean a permanent closure, depending on their size.  By denying approval for portable lifts — which would provide access to anyone who wanted it at a reasonable cost — the Obama administration has made clear that their priority isn’t access.  It’s synchronized swimming with their trial-lawyer allies, and now access may be much more widely denied as a result.

    So laugh at the Toilet Safety Administration all you want but you have to admit.
