Natural Gas is Greener Than Oil

Let me start with a couple of caveats. First, this post is not a recommendation to buy Clean Energy Fuels or any other stock. I'll have to get a lot better at picking stocks for my own portfolio before I screw up yours. Second, if you saw the CNBC Republican debate you probably know that CNBC's Jim Cramer is an inveterate big government liberal. All his questions centered on what government could do for business. In the video clip notice that he begins by asking about proposed legislation in congress. The legislation about which he speaks is a tax credit for trucking companies that convert to natural gas engines in their trucks. The CLNE CEO would like to see the subsidy become law too but he admits that the conversion to natural gas will happen without it.

This video is of interest us for two reasons that are near our hearts; the incipient gas boom in Ohio and the jobs it will produce and the eventual future of the family car. Most of what we have heard about NG powered cars has been downbeat. The discussion in the video dispels much of that but one could put up with a lot of negatives for the $1.50 per gallon difference. The switch to NG trucks would be good for Ohio because of its vast natural gas reserves and good for the country and it will happen sooner rather than later.
