Was The CIA A Player In Fast & Furious?

Putting together the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle is clearly more difficult if one doesn't know the appearance of the completed image. So it is with Operation Fast and Furious. There are two more hearings scheduled by Congressman Darrell Issa and his Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The Los Angles Times seems to have the inside track to inside information probably owing to its proximity to Congressman Issa's district. The LA Times is reporting that the number two man at Justice, Deputy Atty. Gen. David W. Ogden sent the nine page memo to ATF agents on the border calling for increased vigilance in the interdiction of arms flowing into Mexico. It did not suggest letting guns "walk" but Operation Fast and Furious was launched shortly after and the ATF somehow interprets that memo as authorization for F&F. Operation Fast and Furious was run out of the Phoenix ATF office under the supervision of William D. Newell who under testimony admitted to sharing information with Kevin O'Rielly who worked in the White House for the National Security Agency. I edited and posted those videos. The LA Times story again links the DEA, ICE, IRS and Homeland Security as partners in Fast and Furious.

Now a blog at the Houston Chronicle has published a letter from Senator John Cornyn of Texas to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting information on gun "walking" from Texas. No additional information is provided from that blog but an article from The Abilene Reporter which this I cited earlier states that 115 guns confiscated from the cartels in Mexico originated in Texas. Then there was Operation Castaway that originated in Tampa and funneled guns to Honduras about which very little has been reported. What is going on? We have guns shipped from Texas, Arizona, and Florida to drug cartels in Mexico and Honduras. Previously I bought into the theory, along with the NRA, Investors Business Daily, and even Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa that Operation Fast and Furious and its parent, Operation Gun Runner were aimed at the enactment of more stringent gun sale regulation. Two more bits of information and we'll look at another theory. First, awaiting trial in Chicago is the son of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, Jesus Vincente "El Mayito" Zambada-Niebla of the Sinaloa Cartel. Zambada claims to have an immunity agreement with the DEA that allowed him to smuggle tons of cocaine into Chicago and has pled not guilty. The government has until September 9 to respond. Second, from the Abilene Reporter story comes this: "When Mexican authorities captured Jesus Enrique Rejon Aguilar of the Zetas drug cartel he stated to federal police that for a time buyers for the rival gang said even the U.S. government was selling arms and facilitating transport of them and there seemed to be some kind of agreement with the authorities."

Does the list of aforementioned government agencies contain an omission? How about the CIA? The Washington Times carried a story by Robert Farago suggesting that the CIA was so fearful that the Los Zetas drug cartel would overthrow the Calderon government that it aligned itself and the US government with the rival Sinaloa cartel. This would explain why the DEA would work out an immunity agreement with Jesus Zambada and why it would look to the Zetas gang member that the US government was selling arms to his rivals. Moreover it would explain why Agent Newell would share information with a man who just happened to be a friend at the NSA in the White House. If this theory is accurate -even if only half so- it could bring the heads of the FBI, CIA, ICE, IRS, DEA, ATF, Dept Of Homeland Security along with Barack Obama.
