In Wisconsin both parties next year will be fiercely contesting the seat, which will be vacated with the planned retirement of four-term Senate Democrat Herb Kohl. But with whom? Yesterday this blog pointed out the electoral shortcomings of likeable four term Republican Governor Tommy Thompson. Today former Democratic Senator Russ Feingold announced he would not seek office in 2012. Zounds! He was the great left hope to run Scot Walker out of the governor's mansion. And now he doesn't want to run for any office. He's enjoying his teaching career so much at Marquette Law School and working on a book and gee he'd just love to help but his time is just too precious. Now the Democrats have to scramble to come up with two credible candidates in the event they can force Walker into a recall election. If the Republicans can come up with just one good candidate they could pick up a Senate seat.
