The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the head of the DEA has admitted her agency was involved in operation Fast and Furious. Michele M. Leonhart, the DEA administrator, said DEA agents primarily helped gather evidence in cases in Phoenix and El Paso. In a letter to Rep. Darrell Issa chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Sen. Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the senior GOP member of the Senate Judiciary Committee Leonhart acknowledged her agency's involvement. She stated that DEA personnel had no decision making role in Fast and Furious but his letter is the first solid evidence linking an outside agency to the scandal.
