United for Coal Rallies Ripple Across Appalachia

United for Coal rallied yesterday in Big Stone Gap, Va., Paintsville, Ky., Chillicothe, Ohio, Pikeville, Ky., and Williamson, W.Va. Although confined to the coal fields they may have grave implications in swing states Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. In addition to being swing states all three have hotly contested senate races. Also yesterday  in Beallsville, Ohio miners at the American Energy Corporation Century Mine said they want President Barack Obama to stop what they term "the war on coal" - and to stop spreading "mistruths" about them. At issue is an Obama campaign ad that states that miners were forced to attend a Mitt Romney rally by their employer, Robert Murray. The key points made in the video are:
- No employee was forced to attend the event.
- There were no attendance records taken for hourly employees.
- There were absolutely no penalties or reprimands to those who did not attend.
- Due to security concerns for the Romney campaign, there was a list for transportation purposes.
- They were "honored" to host Romney at the mine.
Obviously they have no use for Obama and the EPA but they are not real fond of Sherrod Brown either. In Pennsylvania Republican candidate for senate, Tom Smith was a coal miner before he was a mine owner which must boost his standing with these men.

  1. Don Blankenship was a miner before he killed 26 men, do miners love him?
United for Coal is not grassroots its backed by coal barons, just another industry front group.

  2. I don't even have to research what you're talking about to know you're a union shill Democrat, probably paid to stand across the street from a Romney rally with a sign painted with invectives about what heartless devils Republicans are.

Coal barons? What a quaint term.

Just like Pelosi claiming the Tea Party wasn't grass roots, I guess you'll find out the truth about these miners on Nov 6.

Obama's goal is to shut down coal, which is fine if you don't like heat or electricity or air conditioning.

It's loons like you who have Obama signs on your lawn. I'm really hoping you're drowning in your tears in about 3 weeks.

  3. Actually it was put together by Karl Rove and the Koch brothers who have supplanted the coal barons as the miscreants in leftist fantasies. While these miners may lack the authenticity of say the No Labels or Coffee Party crowd they will probably gain authenticity and credibility about November 6. I suggest you try to make your argument in Morgantown, West Virginia, Harlan, Kentucky, Barton, Maryland or Portsmouth, Ohio and see if these men are real. They are real men and all man.
