Their highnesses don't like to be questioned

Ah, so many stories in the news this week about our lordships' abuse of power, greed, selfishness and mockery of citizens who pay their dry cleaning bills.
  Sigh.
  Let's put them into perspective.
Let's start with that elder statesman who's been in office 40 years and flouted his own laws regarding taxes and untoward profit. Old Charlie, known for his gravelly voice and elegantly contemptuous brush-offs of those beneath him, has finally been brought up on ethics charges after years of bungling on the part of his own party.
They've known about his problems for quite some time but only now have chosen to do something about it; why? Why, the fall elections, of course, and Queen Nancy's desire to get the press, timid little kittens that they are, to move away from democrat areas of controversy.
But now calls for his resignation have commenced and "a question" from a network that "used to have respect," meaning they didn't used to ask democrats, or at least Rangel, hard questions.
  Over at The Daily Beast:.
The author of this article feels Rangel should resign. Huh. Wonder where he was when these charges first emerged.
If you haven't seen the video of Rangel being "confronted," (so to speak, as few reporters ever "confront" democrats) here:
So let's move on to Lord Kerry, he of "let's tax the people more! The RICH have too much!
Then there's Lord John Kerry (who served in Viet Nam), who had the foresight to marry Teresa Heinz Kerry, who inherited her Republican dead husband's fortune. Scandal erupted when Lord Kerry bought a $7 million boat, docked it in R.I. so he wouldn't have to pay $500,000 worth of Massachusetts (Boston Herald) taxes.
Then there's the matter of the water bottles. Wailing about how water bottles destroy the ecosystem and how YOU shouldn't buy them should mean that Congress doesn't use them, right? But then news is revealed that taxpayer money is spent *all the time* on things like paying off Congressional employees' student loans, buying catering and water bottles, web design, pension plans. Ugh. It goes on. The lists for the expenditures are here and here and here. $604,000 on water bottles. A billion dollars on just supporting themselves and their own catering.
Question: When did a billion dollars amount to chicken feed? Answer: The Obama years.
Geithner, the tax cheat: This country has spent beyond its means.
Luxuries congresspeople have given to themselves:

  • Sirius radio
  • OnStar
  • debit cards with no itemizations listed
  • lots of catering
  • Hyatt Regency and 5 star hotels (Do you know who I am?)
  • $125,000 on news clippings
  • pay raises that do not require a vote
  • numerous publications and news services
  • lots of catering
  • Wolfgang Puck and restaurants where "most Americans could not afford to eat"
  • free parking
  • lobbyists' gifts
  • lots of days off
  • numerous personal staff
  • automobiles
  • chauffeurs including using the military as such
  • 24/7 medical care
  • secret offices the location of which even spouses are unaware
  • foreign and domestic travel allowances
  • air travel no charge
  • special parking places in DC and airports
  • automatic pay hikes
  • fundraisers in expensive resorts and golfing resorts
  • PACs that provide all kinds of additional perks including clothing and whatever they feel like charging to it such as a personal trainer
Apparently the retirement perks are the most astounding: you have to serve 5 years to receive, for life, retirement benefits that rival 2-3 times the private sector executive along with lifetime health care mostly subsidized by the taxpayers.
Do you see why they don't want to leave?
