Newt And His Pro-Choice Past

During the 12 years they served in the House Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi co-sponsored 418 bills. That's not a bad as it could made to sound in a one minute attack ad as many of the bills were not controversial. There is one bill on which they shared sponsorship and it's a doozy. It's the Global Warming Prevention Act of 1989 which died in committee. Other co-sponsors include; Barbara Boxer, John Conyers, Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer, Chris Shays, Louise Slaughter, and Olympia Snowe. Explain this Newt. You wanted to pad your bipartisan credentials?

The bill effectively gutted Ronald Reagan's Mexico City policy which blocked US funding from going to international groups that refer for or commit abortions.

No restrictions may be placed on the use of these funds which would be inconsistent with the United States constitutional rights of privacy, regardless of whether such funds are used to provide such services abroad, to support international efforts, or any other use.

POLICY- It is the policy of the United States that family planning services should be made available to all persons requesting them….

LIMITATIONS- None of the funds authorized by this section may be used to pay for the performance of involuntary sterilization or abortion or to coerce any person to accept family planning.

Explain this Newt. Voluntary sterilization and abortions are alright? Newt Gingrich is every bit the flip flopper that Mitt Romney is. What amazes me is how short conservative memories have become when it comes to Gingrich. Why was he at 2 percent in the polls at the beginning of the primary season? It was because he dissed the Ryan budget. Why did his campaign staff desert him? It was because he was so hen pecked that he had to leave his campaign to take his wife on a Grecian vacation. What about his endorsement of Dede Scozzafava? Was it because she was pro-life? From the Daily Kos:

"Abortion-rights groups are hoping to change that in the next few days — NARAL Pro-Choice New York just launched a campaign on Scozzafava’s behalf that includes mail to more than 10,000 households and volunteer phone banking “highlighting Scozzafava’s many pro-choice, pro-active votes in the State Assembly and her distinction as the only 100% pro-choice candidate in the race,” according to a news release from the group."

Explain this Newt. It is true that I have never been a Gingrich fan and I have not been kind to him in my posts on this blog but the almost total lack of personal honesty in this man's character takes my breathe away.
