Does anyone remember when George McGovern was thought to be a stalking horse for Bobby Kennedy? The stalking horse theory caught everyone off guard because it had to be explained it was a horse an Indian hunter hid behind to get close to his prey. Really, it was a poor analogy but it seemed garner a aura of intellectualism so it became a popular topic on NPR and other venues of great intellects. Because Allahpundit and Verum Serum don't play on pretensions they have not used the term stalking horse but they have put forth an interesting theory that Rush Limbaugh has picked up. To get to the point, is Herman Cain Mitt Romney's stalking horse? Verum Serum asks, " Could this have been planned from the start? In other words, is it possible that Romney and Cain have some sort of arrangement? Cain would be expected to draw support away from all the candidates to Romney’s right in the primary, potentially paving the way for Romney’s nomination." Allahpundit quotes Romney saying, “We each have our own experiences, he’s a great guy. Vote for either one of us and you’ll be happy,” Romney said. It's a plausible theory, Cain would do in Perry, Bachmann, and the rest of the conservative field then become Romney's vice president. View the video and maybe the stalking horse theory makes sense.
I saw your comment over there and wondered about it. More plausible to me is Rush's explanation today about why Christie is out there endorsing Romney because Cain is breathing heavily down his neck. The establishment Repubs AND unhappy Dems favor Romney because he's a RINO. They've already decided. Remember that comment by that Republican blonde female whose name escapes me right now said that the field is already decided? Romney's the big money guy?
So maybe Cain is the guy but personally I'd rather see him in the driver's seat. The 9-9-9 thing is a problem and, as you mention, so is TARP.
But TARP was and is a problem for a lot of folks. Didn't Paul Ryan support TARP too? And say we chalk that off as a learning experience (one the Tea Partiers didn't seem to NEED as opposed to politicians), I think (hope) Cain could be talked out of the flat tax thing.
Romney seems like a great guy. I'm just worried he's too establishment and too government health care oriented. Just sayin.'
