How Could Stabenow Lose?

Is Senator Debbie Stabenow on the ropes. Hardly. She leads both of her Republican challengers in the polls and in money but still one might want to hedge any bets on her. If trends tend to trend as some think they do the hand writing on the wall may be more than just anti-Obama graffiti. The trend in Michigan is toward the right. It elected a Republican governor for the first time in eight years, fired two Democratic congressmen and elected Republican majorities in both houses who in turn eliminated a Democratic congressional district. Then there is that troublesome vote on Obamacare that may haunt Stabenow The landscape in the Wolverine state has changed to a bright red and it could be her blue blazer won't wear well next fall. There are two credible candidates on the Republican side who could possibly send the senator into the home for washed liberals who believe in global warming because "Global warming creates volatility. I feel it when I'm flying."

Pete Hoekstra represented Michigan's second congressional district for 18 years which pretty well establishes his bona fides as a Washington insider. He gave up his seat in his unsuccessful attempt to win the Republican nomination for governor. One could draw many unflattering parallels between him and Stabenow. Clark Durant who helped found the Imprimis newsletter while serving at Hillsdale College is a different breed of cat and someone I intend to follow. Watch this guy!
