But conservatives are changing in other ways. While it is very true that we do not want the gay lobby to try to indoctrinate our children and judge those of us who have beliefs that are different from theirs, the Christian community itself is a loving one, one that is growing to understand some of the mistakes that have been made over the years.
For example, years ago girls who became pregnant out of wedlock were treated as pariahs, scorned and isolated. Many Christian people never thought that the journey of the young pregnant single woman was a journey that did not include abortion and a difficult road to walk.
Then we come to the issue of the gay community.
The truth is that people's life decisions are between themselves and God. Well, as long as they keep those life decisions between themselves and God, things are good. Some of us aren't big fans of seeing any gender clenched in a passionate embrace with locked lips.
A passionate voice, now on the right, of a gay conservative is that of Kevin Dujan at Hillbuzz. His writing is passionate, wickedly funny, emotional and very insightful.
His column today reveals much about his evolution from liberal democrat to (persecuted) gay conservative. It's worth your time to read it today and remind yourself that you will not be part of a crowd that is hurtful, judgmental and nasty. We all have standards in life. Those we uphold. But for each one of us, life is a road we walk, learning as we go and sometimes regretting behavior we exhibited years ago and sometimes determining that we will never, ever behave as some do toward other human beings.

No matter how bad the hatemail gets for me, or how alone I feel, the default programming from all those years at Catholic School kick in and I feel like when I’m most backed up against the wall, that Jesus is there behind me. When all my other reinforcements and reserves fail and I am completely surrounded, I know that I am never going to be completely alone. That He will be there, the way He promised, and the way all those nuns who taught me growing up guaranteed.
