Rep. Michael Grimm has a 20 count indictment and a 19 point lead!

Michael Grimm is a Republican face that Republicans would like to forget. The Staten Island Congressman is under a 20 count federal indictment for charges that include perjury and tax evasion. That said, he is good enough to win with and win big. This is more antidotal evidence that Obama has irreparably damaged the Democrat brand at least for this election cycle. The National Republican Congressional Committee has frozen Grimm out while the DCCC has poured $3.7 million into the race. And what did $3.7 million buy? A 19 point gap. Grimm leads his Democratic challenger Domenic Recchia 53-34 percent, up significantly from a narrow 44-40 percent lead seven weeks ago, according to a New York/Siena College Research Institute poll of likely voters.
Grimm's district isn't that Republican. He is getting 31 percent of the Democratic vote and leads among independents 59-22 percent.
To quote an editorial from the Staten Island Advance;
There are, on occasion, electoral races in which both candidates are of high quality and high integrity and conduct a tough but fair campaign about the issues.
Fair-minded voters have a difficult choice, but they can know that, no matter who is elected, they'll be well represented by someone who won't embarrass their community.
The election for the House of Representatives seat in the 11th New York Congressional District is nothing like that...
As distasteful as this contest may be on a number of levels, we have a choice to make, as do the voters.
On Tuesday, Mr. Grimm is still the best practical choice for Staten Island.
