Duncan Identifies Mainstream Opposition to Common Core

“It’s fascinating to me that some of the pushback is coming from, sort of, white suburban moms who — all of a sudden — their child isn’t as brilliant as they thought they were and their school isn’t quite as good as they thought they were, and that’s pretty scary,” Duncan proclaimed. “You’ve bet your house and where you live and everything on, ‘My child’s going to be prepared.’ That can be a punch in the gut.”
But those are Bill Clinton's soccer moms! I don't think Duncan is sufficiently schooled in the Chicago-Alinsky tactic to isolate and ridicule opponents and I don't think citing a particular demographic is intentionally interjecting race into the controversy surrounding Common Core as some on the right have suggested. What surprises me is that Duncan candidly admits that Common Core is anathema to mainstream voters which certainly makes its continuation more problematic.
Up until now critics of Common Core have been identified as fanatical right wing home schooling Christians and lesser developed homo sapiens who frequent gun shows and Hooters but Duncan put a new face on the opposition. Thank you, Secretary Duncan.
