While the media complains that Putin shows no respect for Obama it has ignored the bitch slapping he got from, of all people, the Canadian ambassador. Go ahead and nix the Keystone, Mr President but you are going to get the oil just the same. It will be delivered by train. The same type of train that almost leveled the small Quebec town of Lac-Megantic.
Ambassador Gary Doer said, “His choice is to have it come down by a pipeline that he approves, or without his approval, it comes down on trains. That’s just the raw common sense of this thing, and we’ve been saying it for two years and we’ve been proven correct. At the end of the day, it’s trains or pipelines.”
Maybe Hillary, when she expressed tentative approval of the Keystone, remembered her hubby passed the North American Free Trade Agreement with much boasting. It was just as important to him as Obamacare is to President Dangerfield and NAFTA does not allow a politician to pick and choose which commodities he will allow to be imported from Canada or Mexico.
Presently only about 3 % of Canadian oil is shipped by rail but that could go as high as 25 % by 2035. Of course it's cheaper to pipeline crude but as long as the price of crude stays high it will find its way to market; one way or the other. Well done, Ambassador Doer!
