I admit I'm a news junkie: this campaign cycle hasn't ensnared only me, however. Everyone I know has an opinion about what's going on in the country, the polarization and how they feel about Romney/Obama.
I'll admit again that most of my close friends are conservatives, thus skewing my opinion. And then there's that nagging little German part of me that simply can't ever be too happy and always has to look on the dark side of the moon. Thus I will say I'm cautiously optimistic about this election, for several reasons.
If you listen to Rush, you know he's been both right and wrong about what's happening. He warned us for months that the polls we were being hit with are part of the psy ops campaign waged by both the media and the Left (but I repeat...).
Rush caught up with the fact that, strangely, this campaign cycle has been different. In a desperate attempt to sway opinion and demoralize conservatives, polls are still being jimmied to reflect a tie or Obama lead. Last week Rush noted that the tactics have changed: the purpose for running these polls right up to the election is to give the Left fodder for filing lawsuits around the country, trumping up reasons for nullifying either the election altogether or a Romney winner.
Most enlightening is DaTechGuy, who addresses 2 Leftist polls, one from Pew and one from CNN. He sums his poll fillet this way, noting that the PEW poll called more Dems, more women and more people who voted for Obama than the national average:
The fact that PEW and the left is flogging a D+6 poll with a +13 point sample of women is funny, that this poll shows Romney leading among independents yet has Obama up 3 is funnier, that you are releasing a poll two days before an election that has a sample whose members supported Obama at double the rate of 2008 isn’t just funny it screams one thing:
“Ride right through them, they’re demoralized as hell”!
This is the type of thing you do when you’ve got nothing else, they’ve got NOTHING and we are going to beat them so bad they are going to wonder why they were so willing to sell their credibility on a candidate as bad as this president.Hillbuzz Kevin Dujan says to prepare yourself for today and tomorrow, as it will be an all out onslaught on your sensibilities to convince the public that Obama has it in the bag:
Please take some time today to mentally prepare yourself for the psychological warfare and emotional terrorism that you’ll be inundated with on Tuesday, from the crack of dawn until the election is finally called for Mitt Romney (at about 9pm EST/8pm CST or so). The Ministry of Truth that is the national media is going to run psy-ops for Barack Obama all day, attempting to freak out conservatives in the last chance they have to keep people from heading to the polls and voting Obama out of office. Meanwhile, some conservative pundits and websites will be screaming “SHARK!” and also attempting to freak out Republicans…because the fear porn they push drives up web traffic and panicked people keep checking back with the site all day to see if it’s safe to go into the water again. Telling you there’s a great white in your bathtub has been a favorite trick of people like Ace at Ace of Spades, Allahpundit at HotAir, and Ben Shapiro at Breitbart because this sort of emotional terrorism gets people to tweet, email, Facebook post, and otherwise spread their articles far and wide…which drives up hits to their respective sites…and that in turn translates into more ad dollars coming in on Election Day.Kevin says he wears his Romney shirt everywhere in Chicago and the only comments he gets are like this: "So you think he'll be a good president?" This laissez faire attitude seems to be borne out by the Weekly Standard's column acknowledging that the Chicago Democrats are simply not turning out to vote early or absentee the way they have in the past.
Kevin repeatedly says that fear porn is driving much of the current election rhetoric. Fox News does this: they're selling a product. If the election were all sewn up, why would people watch every day? The spikes in traffic to both networks and websites are driven by money, driving up numbers to acquire advertisers and sales.
But where's the energy? Obviously it's with Romney, not Obama, though the Obamabots are driven to scream louder and louder than the conservatives.
Do we really think that all those people are waiting in line 6 hours to vote are Obamabots?
Look at the emotion of people who are worried that this country is on the wrong track.
Look at gun sales, as people prepare for the worst.
Over 30 major papers, including some classically liberal, have endorsed Mitt Romney. Some Democrats have also.
That storm Sandy that so many Democrats lauded as a gift from God to Obama may have gotten burned, not only by their selfish cynicism and lack of concern for their fellow man, but by the fact that their huge government apparatuses do not function well, leaving many angry and despairing voters who have been stunned by the inefficiencies and inadequacies of FEMA, the Red Cross and the government that receives their tax dollars for just such situations.
I talked with two guys yesterday who have been traditionally non-political, more conservative leaning but not that involved. They're afraid for this country; they've been watching news closely and are worried about the nightmare coming down the road if Obama wins again.
I believe, though anecdotal, that these men represent a good chunk of voters this time around.
Obama has alienated huge groups of people, while embracing the Occupiers, the minorities (though not successful or conservative minorities), union members, the government dependent, the aggrieved, the youth and celebrities.
He has alienated coal miners, gun owners, the wealthy, conservatives, Catholics, the successful and the average American, the military. This is a formidable coalition who are driven by something greater than themselves or personal interest.
In fact, Daniel Henninger at the WSJ wrote a column called "Romney's secret voting bloc" discussing the Christian community who've been pretty much ignored in this election. This group refused to support McCain only somewhat mitigated by the addition the popular Palin; Beck has repeatedly commented that hundreds of thousands of Christians did not vote in the last election.
And then there's Chick-Fil-A....
And 2010. Did they think that was a fluke?
Here are some observations from VD Hansen at NRO:
The result is that Romney’s October momentum seems like it is resuming, as he appears far more presidential than the incumbent, who is running as a challenger on the premise that he has not been president the last four years. Obama’s tenor is reminiscent of a desperate Jerry Ford, Jimmy Carter, and George H. W. Bush who in the last 72 hours of their campaigns could feel their presidencies slipping away, without the ability to do much about it. In contrast, Romney’s crowds and buzz are far more reminiscent of a down-the-stretch upbeat 1980 Reagan, 1992 Clinton — and 2008 Obama — whom you could feel in the last few hours of the campaigns were happy warriors surging as never before.I won't be around to blog tomorrow, as I'll be a poll observer, as I hope many conservatives will. Ohio is essential, as we've all been told at least a million times.
Just for a laugh, if you can stomach this, this is what you're up against. This is what they got. Eh. Not so much.
In its lameness, it exemplifies exactly what's up with the Obamabots. They're cultists, caught up with their own (and his) narcissism with little regard for the future or the practicalities of fiscal responsibility.
Considering that the unemployment rate is higher than when Obama came in, we'll hope Obama and his ilk will be given the boot.
Eagles up and prayers!
