The coverup continues: ambassador's diary

The intelligence agencies of this administration, whether its partisan arms or career "non-partisan", look more and more like the Keystone Kops, spinning out of of control, completely ineffectual and more of a cartoon than a security force.
  Four days after the brutal torture and murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, CNN found his diary in the compound where Stevens was assaulted; CNN reported that the compound was virtually "unsecured."
  That in itself is appalling. While we were informed that the FBI was being sent to investigate the murders, now we know either that wasn't so or they sent over novices. 
  Perhaps we've seen too many NCIS episodes, but one would think that a crime scene would have been investigated so things like diaries would be picked up, confiscated and inspected for possible clues to the identity of the murderers.
  Call me crazy but it doesn't look like that actually happening, considering that any reporter walking by could go into the building, pick the diary up off the floor and read that the Ambassador  had fear about the rise of terrorism and al Qaeda in his neighborhood.
  So naturally CNN processed the information (like any good investigative reporter, something we haven't seen recently except on NCIS and the like) and returned the diary to the family.
  This administration did not LIKE the fact that CNN found this information and in fact bound them to secrecy in consideration of the family. Here is the State Department's statement:

"Given the truth of how this was handled, CNN patting themselves on the back is disgusting," Reines said in his statement. 

"Whose first instinct is to remove from a crime scene the diary of a man killed along with three other Americans serving our country, read it, transcribe it, email it around your newsroom for others to read" and then call the family?" Reines asked. 

In a phone call with the Stevens family, CNN "agreed to abide by the clear wishes of the Stevens family, and pledged not to use the diary or even allude to its existence until hearing back from the family," Reines said.

  Now, as disgusted as the State Department is in their denunciation of the news organization, one just might be a little suspicious that State has a selfish motive of their own for keeping this quiet.
  Like the fact that Stevens was concerned with the lack of security.
  Like the fact that State did nothing in spite of those concerns, whether relayed by Stevens or not, intelligence should have informed them of the situation.
  Or was there any intelligence in the war torn country of Libya?
  So why does the administration continue to lie, stonewall and cover up national security issues? 
  Rather than blame CNN for revealing the diary, why didn't State own it first?
  What else are they hiding?
