Linda McMahon plays hardball. Her relentless attack on her opponent, Chris Murphy has intensified further, if that's possible. McMahon has filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics. In the complaint the McMahon campaign asks for an investigation to determine if Murphy “has accepted a prohibited gift and used his official position to secure himself personal and political financial benefit.”
The voters of Connecticut remember well former Senator Chris Dodd's ethical problems surrounding his home mortgage with Country Wide Financial which led to his retirement. Prior to becoming a congressman, Murphy legally represented the Webster Bank which gave him a mortgage and a home equity line of credit. Under the law, the Office of Congressional Ethics cannot act on a complaint filed less than 60 days before an election until after the election but the complaint itself has some political value in the near term and McMahon is giving no quarter.
