Is Nikki Haley not really Indian?

Can things get any more absurd? Now Dems are accusing Nikki Haley, governor of South Carolina, as...something. Using her race to win? From the Washington Examiner:

Her parents emigrated from India and Haley was born in Bamberg County, S.C., a county split between whites and blacks. Born Nimrata Randhawa, she frequently credits her different heritage with helping her get beyond race and finding problems that many have in common.
South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian said the 2001 document the party unearthed shows the 39-year-old Haley plays on her race for political convenience.
"She can't even tell the truth about her racial heritage," Harpootlian said.
So what does this mean? That Haley ISN'T Indian? She's 100% Indian and an American!
That she filled out "white" because she resented, at that time, being labeled and felt that was getting beyond race?
Or that the information was copied from her license? Or that when she filled out her license info, the clerk assumed she was, what, just American because she didn't have an accent?
Political convenience? Herman Cain's really benefited, right? He's mocked as an Uncle Tom.
Harpootlian is implying that she's not really minority enough, just like Marco Rubio is a "traitor to Hispanics" and Sarah Palin "isn't a real woman."
That if she were really a minority, she'd use that status to advantage herself as a liberal.
This race card use simply has to stop. It's ridiculous. People are people; they often disagree. Just because they disagree does not mean they should be mocked or accused of being liars.
  Or whatever.
  This is ridiculous.
  Did I say that already?
  Ridiculous.
