Stoooooopak sees hypocrisy

For many of us who are pro-life, abortion is a reality we accept in the lives of others. We do not want to be party to the taking of innocent life, certainly not in our personal lives and certainly not with our money. So Stupak was a last stand man for us: someone who appeared to embody the ideals we share about being pro-life: that the respect for life transcends party politics. This is why his betrayal was so sharp. The EO that hasn't been signed yet has no teeth, is easily taken off the table and obviously will have no effect on the abortion rights in the bill since it will never be enforced. It was a ruse; that Stupak would go after those who supported him in his support of life is particularly galling. Just a reminder: Stupak's pro-life physician opponent is Dr. Dan Beneshek.

"The bill that they're using as the vehicle is the Senate bill, and if you go to page 2,069 through page 2,078, you will find in there the federal government would directly subsidize abortions, plus every enrollee in the Office of Personnel Management enrolled plan, every enrollee has to pay a minimum of $1 per month towards reproductive rights, which includes abortions," Stupak said in a Good Morning America interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on March 4, 2010.
