Obama advises Ghana to keep taxes low

The speech to Ghana was interesting. While it was truly moving to witness Obama speaking of his own heritage to this democratically elected country's leaders, some of the things he said were especially grating, including the comments about gov't skimming 20% off the top of any business's profits and government intimidating individuals in various ways. Say Anything blog points out that the average tax rate is just under 40% in the US, second only to Japan. Read about it here. In addition, an audience sure can get tired of hearing about "me," "I," "mine" and all the same stories over and over again. He sure is in love with himself.
Here’s some wisdom President Obama imparted to the folks of Ghana:

No business wants to invest in a place where the government skims 20 percent off the top.

For the record, the current average corporate tax rate for combined state and federal taxes is39.3%.  That’s a rate second only to Japan’s, though it’s worth noting that a full 24 states have a combined state and federal corporate income tax rate that’s higher than Japan’s.

Anyway, perhaps we can convince Obama that’s what’s good for Ghana is good for America.  Here, we wish the government was only skimming 20% off the top.
