The strange story of Bowe Bergdahl and his family

One might think Bowe Bergdahl, the recently traded American POW, had some mental issues, considering that it is pretty verifiable that he walked off to join the Taliban, ie, deserted.
According to a fellow soldier, Bergdahl was using Rosetta Stone to learn the language of the Taliban. He had sent a box with his belongings home to his parents prior to his disappearance, slipped out in the lowest moonlight and only took with him his journal, camera and compass.
The soldier says Bergdahl planned his departure, saying that if his time in the Army did not work out, he would just desert and find his way to the mountains and China; the villagers his platoon queried when searching for him claimed he asked where the Taliban were.
You can read the fellow soldier's tweets here
The act of trading terrorists for an American soldier appears at this juncture to be a craven political act.
There's little doubt that Bergdahl put his fellow soldiers at risk by disappearing and going AWOL. The Guardian:
Thoughtful and quiet, Bergdahl appears to have been an outsider in the army, which he joined looking for adventure after being turned down by the French Foreign Legion and drifting through jobs from ballet dancer to house-sitter and barista. He was reported missing after missing roll call on 30 June 2009, and a huge search operation began immediately, with foot patrols combing the landmine-laced and helicopters flying dozens of missions to look for him from the air.
During yesterday's somewhat bizarre press conference with Obama and the elder Bergdahls, Bob Bergdahl (sporting a Taliban like beard) claimed that his son wanted to join the Army to "help" Afghanis, the he regarded the Army as a "Peace Corps with guns," according to his sister, who claims Bergdahl really didn't know what he was getting into by joining the Army.
One might wonder why this former ballet dancer and dabbler in Tarot cards didn't simply join the Peace Corps. A Peace Corps with guns? Seriously?
The elder Bergdahl also says, “This is not your stereotypical American military family whose son went to war,”again presumably meaning the patriotic warmongering type family who wants to defend the country against its enemies.
Today the Taliban is hooting and crowing about their "big victory."
And Bob Bergdahl admits corresponding with a member of the Taliban, claiming they never would have "hurt" his son, presumably because the Taliban are known for their peaceful activities.
As a matter of fact, the Rolling Stone interview reveals that Bob and son Bowe fantasized about killing African warlords:
He and his father even fantasized about the creation of a special operations unit to "kill these f***s" in Africa, imagining that "someone needed to run an op with some military people dressed up like U.N. people" to take out warlords in Darfur and Sudan. Before a spot in the friend's missionary program could open up, though, Bowe had decided on a different adventure.
Meanwhile the White House is "overjoyed" that Bergdahl is free, apparently unconcerned by his desertion. " "Frankly, we don't give a shit why he left," says one White House official."
The White House has been negotiating this release for four years, at times waiting patiently as the Taliban broke off talks. The White House acquiesced, saying they wanted to give the Taliban "space."
Three years ago, a White House official said this to Rolling Stone:
On May 1st, in a surprise visit to Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan, President Obama announced that the United States will now pursue “a negotiated peace” with the Taliban. That peace is likely to include a prisoner swap – or a “confidence-building measure,” as U.S. officials working on the negotiations call it – that could finally end the longest war in America’s history. Bowe is the one prisoner the Taliban have to trade. “It could be a huge win if Obama could bring him home,” says a senior administration official familiar with the negotiations.
“Especially in an election year, if it’s handled properly.”“It could be a huge win if Obama could bring him home,” says a senior administration official familiar with the negotiations. “Especially in an election year, if it’s handled properly.”
The story gets stranger the more closely it is examined. Though the military says Bergdahl burst into tears, apparently with relief, at being acquired by American special forces, I guess I find that a little hard to believe, considering his history. Remember the questionable story of Jessica Lynch, a story apparently constructed to create a war hero.
Here is video of a Guardian interview of Bob Bergdahl.
Meanwhile an American Marine languishes in a Mexican prison, an American's Christian wife condemned to death gives birth to her daughter with her legs in chain and an American pastor is beaten in an Iranian prison.

UPDATE: Soldiers are now coming forward to point out that many soldiers DIED looking for what most believe is a deserter; that they were forced to sign silency agreements not to discuss his desertion: that Bergdahl collaborated with the enemy.
This while Susan Rice claims he was "captured on the battlefield." Does she ever get a clue?

  1. Well if Susan Rice says it, it must be true. It'll be interesting to hear what WTC and Benghazi families think of this. You read the Willie Horton threat in the Rolling Stone piece? It may be right.
