The Gas Man Cometh

Kudos to Mr. Putin for refining the debate on the need to reduce carbon emissions. The bureaucrats at the European Union, who know more than the citizens of its member states, have proposed a bold, new, green, pipe dream to reduce carbon emission levels to 40% of 1990 levels by the year 2030. By his invasion and annexation of Crimea Putin has illustrated that the price of cutting carbon emissions may be national sovereignty. Up until the the crisis in the Ukraine it was thought that a cozy deal would be worked out in Paris in 2015 where all the right thinking nations of the industrialized world sign a UN backed suicide pact.
Now Eastern Europe is beginning to question the wisdom of becoming servile vassals to Putin and his thugs. Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, who have memories of life under Russian dominance and who can perceive the connection between green energy, in this instance natural gas, and jack booted Russian hegemony. They are not enthralled at the prospect of living in abject fear of Putin's whims as the price they must pay to heal Mother Gia. To them, Putin has become the face of green energy.
