Next to feel the tug of the long arm of the law was state Senator Leland Yee, a former San Francisco supervisor and one-time mayoral candidate who was criminally charged in federal court in San Francisco with two felony counts of conspiring to import and traffic in firearms, and six corruption counts. Yee's arrest put him in good company among California Democrats as Senator Ron Calderon was indicted on corruption charges, and State Senator Rod Wright,was found guilty of voter fraud, and both took paid leaves of absence earlier this year.
Yee makes a compelling case against restrictions on gun ownership. While plotting to traffic in illegal guns Yee was very much concerned about abridging the rights of honest gun owners. From the gun rights website Bearing Arms;
Like so many in the citizen control cult, Yee has seldom found a law restricting the rights of citizens that he didn’t support. He’s attacked hunting, supported a law to ban the sale of “M” rated video games that was struck down by the California Supreme Court on First Amendment grounds, and has been the author of multiple gun control bills.Also on his way to the pen is Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon who fell victim to an FBI sting operation. Cannon was charged with theft and bribery and accused of taking cash payoffs at least five times.
Yee had made repeated attempts to outlaw popular semi-automatic rifles, and his most recent effort, SB 374, was vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown last year. Yee had vowed to reintroduce the legislation again in 2014, but will likely be more concerned about finding a good defense lawyer instead.
Forget draining the swamp, Nancy, you're up to your ass in alligators. Three high profile Democrats arrested in one week! Coincidence? The FBI was involved in all three cases. Did it wait until Obama was out of the country to make the arrests? Is it trying to regain some of the credibility it has copiously lost since Eric Holder and Barack Obama hit town? Does FBI Director James Comey worry about his legacy as much as Obama? My bet is we will learn more about these arrests.
