Republican Kevin Faulconer takes early lead in San Diego's mayor race

Let's hope the lead holds and let's hope it's a harbinger of things that will happen in November. In loony California Republican City Councilman Kevin Faulconer has taken a commanding lead in the race to fill the vacant mayoral seat left by over sexed Bob Filner who resigned in August, two months before pleading guilty to criminal charges. Faulconer has garnered 56.6 percent of the vote. Democrat David Alvarez has 43.4. If elected Faulconer would be the only Republican mayor of a top 10 US city.
Update: With 62.9 percent of precincts reporting, Republican Kevin Faulconer is leading the race for San Diego mayor with 55.4 percent of the vote. Democrat David Alvarez has 44.6 percent of the vote. Results show 120,199 votes for Faulconer and 96,805 for Alvarez.
Update:  Faulconer won easily, 55% to 45%.
