Oil and gas production in the Utica has begun to take off! In just 3 month of 2013, July, August, and September, Ohio produced double the oil and natural gas produced in all of 2012. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources reported that 245 wells out of 285 wells for which data was reported in 2013 produced 1.3 million barrels of oil and 33,606,075 thousand cubic feet of natural gas. The 245 wells produced on average 5,439 barrels of oil and an average 137,168 thousand cubic feet. of gas. The average number of days in production was 55, ODNR reported in a press release.
Forty wells had no production because they are waiting on pipeline infrastructure, ODNR reported. Gulfport Energy’s Boy Scout well in Harrison County, Ohio, was the highest producing oil well in 2013, at 41,617 barrels of oil during 70 days of production. Gulfport’s Stutzman well in Belmont County was the highest producing gas well at 1,249,739 Mcf during 89 days of production.
Under a new Ohio law oil companies must report quarterly production so in the future we will be better able to view the progress.
